ELIZABETHVILLE • Winifred “Winnie” Arlene Schucker, age 90, of Broad Street, passed away Feb. 27, 2021, at her residence. Winnie was born Oct. 30, 1930, in Pillow, the daughter of Jacob Ralph and Amy Catherine (Schaffer/Shaffer) Hepner. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Charles (Jack) and Mabel Schaffer following the passing of her mother when she was a young child. Winnie was the wife of the late Frank Fred Schucker. Winnie spent her life caring for others. She provided long-term care for her grandmother (Mabel), her oldest daughter (Michelle), and her husband (Frank) when chronic illnesses struck. Her concern for others extended to her professional life where she cared for others at the Lutheran Home in Millersburg. Also, she worked chair-side at dentist offices in Elizabethville and Halifax, and retired from the Halifax dentistry. She was one of the first emergency medical technicians with the Elizabethville Reliance Hose Co. No. 1 where she was a lifetime member. She was a member of the local American Business Women’s Association chapter and was a leader for a Girl Scout troop. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Berrysburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved growing roses, and her rose gardens once contained more than 60 rose bushes. Roses from her gardens adorned the annual church rose breakfast for many years. Winnie loved baking, making crafts and crocheting. In retirement, Winnie continued caring for others. She was a member of the local prayer shawl ministry, where she crotched hundreds of shawls, baby blankets, caps for cancer patients and baby caps to comfort the ill and troubled, and to celebrate new births. She is survived by her son, Dennis Schucker of West Chester, Ohio; her daughter, Karen Welker of Elizabethville; six grandchildren Justin, Rodney, Ryan and Adam Welker and Laura and Joseph Schucker; and five great-grandchildren Camden, Kallie and Cayden Welker; and Addison and Charlotte Welker; with a sixth great-grandchild expected in 2021. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her oldest daughter Michelle Schucker, her brothers Leroy and Lester Hepner, and her sister Ellen Lark. Winnie will be laid to rest at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Elizabethville, where private graveside services will be held at the family’s convenience. Winnie had a passion for life and loved her family, her friends and her church. She will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peace United Church of Christ, PO Box 268, Berrysburg PA 17004. Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes Ltd., Elizabethville, a Minnich Funeral location, is handling the arrangements. To sign the online register book, visit minnichfuneral.com Paid by funeral home
