HALIFAX • Virginia A. Shoop, age 93, of Sheetz Road, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at her home. She was born April 6, 1926, in Halifax, daughter of the late Howard and Nora Miller. She was the widow of Lee R. Shoop of Halifax, who passed away in 2004. This hard-working Powell’s Valley cow-milking farm wife was known by her friends as Ginny. She shared her love for roller skating, card playing, bingo and camping with them. Her homemade apple pies were the best. She enjoyed retirement from employment with the State of Pennsylvania and spent many years involved in the local Farm Women Group; however, her love for family was above all else. This family knew her best as our beloved “Memmy.” You shall be forever missed. Virginia is survived by her five children: Carol Rowe (Larry), Dennis Shoop (Sharon), Gary Shoop, Dale Shoop (Ilene) and Diane Matter (Ed Bohr); 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Goodman; a granddaughter, Lauren Shoop; a brother, Kenneth Miller; and a sister, Minnie Strohecker. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home in Millersburg. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jim Hottenstein officiating. Burial will be at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Halifax following the service.
