NEWS BULLETIN: Street segment to close Friday night

NEWS BULLETIN:
Route 225 (aka Fourth Street) between Market and Armstrong streets in Halifax Borough will be closed effective at 9 p.m. Friday, July 26 for construction work.
It will remain closed through the weekend and may be closed through 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, depending on the amount of time needed to complete the work.
The closing also will affect the intensection of Fourth and Armstrong streets, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Traffic normally using the stretch of road to reach Elizabethville will instead need to take Route 147 through Halifax, then to Millersburg and then Route 209 from Millersburg to Elizabethville.
‘‘However, many local motorists may want to consider using Third Street or Fifth Street via Maple Street to avoid the road closure,’’ PennDOT said in a news release.
The segment of road is to be reconstructed. Five stages are involved, starting with excavation and continuing with replacement of the subbase, then the application (in order) of base course, binder course and scratch course.
Additional work – the application of a two-inch wearing course – will be done when a separate portion of road is resurfaced at a later date, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The contractor is required to complete all but the wearing course no later than 9 p.m. July 31.
