MILLERSBURG • Sara Irene Miller, formerly of Halifax, died peacefully Aug. 19, 2020, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.
She was born Nov. 14, 1933, in Halifax, the daughter of the late Charles and Edna (Marks) Radel.
She was the wife of the late James R. Miller Sr.
Sara was an avid lover of country living. She was a hard-working wife tending a large garden, working alongside her husband on the farm and in their sawmill. The pride of any farm woman was her flower garden, and she was known for her beautiful gardens. Her love of flowers carried over into the Halifax Garden Club where she made many unique arrangements.
She also loved bird watching and doing needlework. She was known for her quilt-making and won many blue ribbons at the Gratz Fair and Farm Show, even having won the Grand Champion ribbon for her “Cathedral Window” quilt.
She spent the last five years of her life living happily at the Polk Assisted Living Center in Millersburg.
She was a member of the former St. Paul’s (Bowerman) Lutheran Church, Enterline.
She and her husband also attended David’s Community Bible Church in Millersburg and most recently she worshipped at Word of Life Chapel, Halifax. She was prepared to meet her Jesus and her maker. She is survived by daughters Evelyn (Earl) Dehmey of Marietta, Linda (Terry) Lentz and Molly (Scott) Snody, both of Halifax, and Kathy (Mike) Zeller of Conchranton; sons Jerry (Susie) Miller, James Miller Jr. and Joseph Miller, all of Halifax; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister Ruth Ann Miller, and brother Charles Radel Jr., both of Halifax. She was preceded in death by four grandchildren, brother Henry Radel and sister June Warfel.
The family held a celebration of life ceremony Aug. 24, 2020, at Enders Grove with Rev. Robert Baer officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Enders.
Donations in her honor can be made to: The Polk Foundation, 301 North St., Millersburg PA 17061 or to Fairview Cemetery Association Inc., 1555 Back Rd., Halifax PA 17032.
