HALIFAX • Robert D. Hoover, lovingly referred to as Bob or Jake, left this earth to join his savior and heavenly family April 26, 2019, after enjoying 88 years of life. He passed over with admirable grace, dignity, thankfulness and appreciation. Bob was a window maker at Capitol Products in Mechanicsburg before retiring to the good life in 1990. Bob loved gardening, enjoyed hunting, driving the back roads with his family taking in the scenery and hoping to see lots of wildlife, and valued entertaining visits and stories with his grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond C. and Kathryn (Whitman) Hoover; siblings: Russell, Pauline (Strohecker), Raymond Jr., Betty Lou and Eugene; granddaughter Melissa Hoover and daughter-in-law Rose (Mace) Miller. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy (Kitchen); siblings: Charles (Jim), Glenn and wife Linda (Miller) Hoover; son, Rodney and wife Darla; son, Kevin Hoover and Luanne Strohecker; stepson, Jay Miller Jr.; stepdaughter, Brenda (Strohecker) and husband Darryl; stepdaughter, Karen (Miller-Hill) and husband Victor; five grandchildren: Sonya (Miller) Long, Rodney Hoover, Shane Miller, Taylor Matter and Tanya (Strohecker) Shiffer; and, nine great-grandchildren: Stephanie Long, Austin and Blake Hoover, Levi and Brianna Matter, Isabella Snyder, and Jayden, Jianna and Jaxon Shiffer. Graveside services were held May 2, 2019, at Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations should be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his memory. The family respectfully asks that you celebrate Bob’s life in a manner that is meaningful to you. Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd., Millersburg, handled the arrangements.
