Halifax Area School District Superintendent Dr. David Hatfield released the following statement late in the afternoon of Nov. 2:
“Today, Halifax Area School District confirmed that an Elementary Teacher tested positive for COVID-19. An additional elementary staff member is now awaiting test results.
“We have contacted The Department of Health and are following the Department of Education’s Recommendations for Pre-K – 12 Schools Following Identification of Cases of COVID-19.
“Halifax Elementary Teachers and Students will move forward with fully remote teaching and learning until Tuesday, November 10.
“HASD and/or the Department of Health will be continuing to contact families of students and staff who were in close contact with people who have tested positive.
“We will be contacting students in one classroom who will not return until Friday, Nov. 13.”
The rest of the statement includes instructions for students and parents regarding class schedules and ordering meals via the cafeteria.
It also notes that the district is closed Friday, Nov. 6 and Monday, Nov. 9 for parent-teacher conferences (which now will be conducted remotely for elementary students) and an Act 80 Teacher In-Service Day, respectively.
