There’s a new club in the Sentinel’s coverage area, founded by local endurance runner and fitness coach Clayton Bouchard. The Rattling Creek Running Club currently meets Thursdays at 6 p.m. in Lykens at The Valley Lighthouse. Bouchard isn’t just focused on runners, but welcomes walkers and hikers too. All levels of participants are invited to check out the weekly ventures on the new trail located close by. Bouchard has laid out the club’s goals as to bring the area’s running and walking community together and to invite runners and walkers from outside the region by organizing local events to showcase ‘‘all the great things we have available for recreational activity here.” He also hopes to bring back the annual Glen Park 5K event. With the club falling under the banner of the Lykens Community Development Corporation, all proceeds from events or fundraisers will be invested back into community projects. So far, attendance has been better than expected. Participants have come from as far away as Millerstown, with between 20 to 25 people and the group being split about evenly between runners and walkers. The club also hosts weekend events, including recent ventures to Big Lick Tunnel and the grave of Daniel Hendrick. To this point, membership is free of charge, and a fundraiser may soon be in the works. At this time, participants are encouraged to bring a light for the evening runs/walks. Bouchard said he is grateful for The Valley Lighthouse allowing him the use of its facility.
