The Millersburg Area School District’s secondary campus will receive more than $750,000 in improvements this summer and fall. The school board approved a package of work at a July 7 meeting by majority vote. The apparent low base bid of $757,000 was submitted by New Cumberland-based East Coast Contracting. (The only other bid submitted was for $764,000.) The improvements encompass all segments of the campus, inside and out, and address needs in the original (1931) sections, as well as additions completed in 1960 and 1972. They are to be completed within 129 days (around 18 weeks) from the signing of all necessary documents. The approved package of work includes: • Repaving of the following areas: All high school/middle school parking lots and access drives, as well as the loading dock and access drive to the athletic field. • In the 1972 addition – Replacement of the aluminum-clad plywood and soffit panels with a new metal panel system and intermediate stud framing. • In the 1960 addition – Removal and masonry infill of the glass block window system. • At the Johnson Library entrance – removal and replacement of the existing concrete slab/step. • At nine locations – New aluminum roof ladders. • In the auditorium – Repairs to the stage, the wood panel at the front of the stage, the apron and the refinishing of the stairs. • Throughout the interior – New flag-style signage for room identification. • Throughout the interior – Removal and replacement of selected window and door systems, including the cafeteria curtain wall. (The cafeteria curtain wall will be replaced with a masonry wall and storefront system for security purposes. The storefront system will include 21 window units and two door/window units.)
