Lamar T. Gehres

GEORGIA • Lamar T. Gehres, 73, formerly of Tremont, died Dec. 10. He was born March 29, 1945, in Donaldson, a son of the late Earl and Verna Shadle Gehres. He attended Tremont High School, later earning his GED. He was a brick layer/mason for many years. He entered in the law enforcement career studying criminal justice at Harrisburg Area Community College and graduating from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in 1978. His career in law enforcement spanned more than 28 years, first serving as a patrolman and later as chief of police for Tremont Borough. Following retirement from Tremont Borough, he served as a sergeant at the Schuylkill County Prison for 10 years. He was of the Protestant faith; and belonged to several organizations while residing in Tremont. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Renninger; two grandchildren; stepsisters; and stepbrothers. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Morgan Gehres; a son, Timothy Gehres of Pine Grove; two stepsons, Michael Long of Georgia and Steve Long of Tennessee; a brother, Robert Gehres of Donaldson; a sister, Sandra Kimmel of Tremont; a step-brother, Clyde Ney of Hegins; grandsons; granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Dimon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Tower City, assisted the family with local arrangements.
