John L. Moyer Sr.

TREMONT • John L. Moyer Sr., 84, died Dec. 25 at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Pine Grove, a son of the late Tennyson and Stella Hand Moyer. He was a 1952 graduate of Tremont Twp. High School and a 1953 graduate of Tremont High School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He also served seven years with the Air Force National Guard. He was a retired carpenter from Pine Grove Homes. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tremont; Tremont Fire Co. for more than 30 years, where he served with the fire police; a member of the Tremont Organization Committee; Tremont Senior Citizens; President and Trustee of the former Tremont Lions Club; a member of the former Tremont American Legion; and a member of the Black Rock Hunting Club. He served as a Judge of Elections in Tremont Borough and a Republican Committee representative for many years. He also worked with the fire crew at the Big Diamond race track for more than 19 years. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Joseph Moyer; and a sister, Ruth “Cookie” Ossman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva Fushey Moyer; two sons, John Moyer, Jr. of Allentown and Lewis Moyer of Tremont; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; sisters; Joan Harmon of Valley View, Helen Shadle of Mollystown, Susie Fulkroad of Halifax, Jean Klinger of Lavelle, Patsy Holtzlaw of South Carolina, and Beverly Weller of Orwigsburg; two brothers, Donald Moyer of Utah and Raymond Moyer of Tremont; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Dec. 31 from the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc, Tower City. Burial with military honors was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
