Joan M. Carl

TOWER CITY • Joan M. Carl, 84, of Tower City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020, in Elizabeth City, N.C. Joan was born in Maizeville, April 29, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Cominsky Pautienus. She was a current member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Williamstown, and its women’s club. Joan was formerly an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Chapel, Tower City, where she was a member and officer of the Catholic Women’s Club and a CCD teacher. She was a member and former officer of the Orwin Fire Co. and the Gratz VFW auxiliaries. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert R. Carl, 2009; a son Raymond R. Carl, 2011; a grandson, Dallas Lodish, 2004; a son-in-law, James O’Shaughnessy; a sister, Bernice Schucker; brothers, William, Edward, Joseph and Robert Pautienus. Surviving are four daughters, Janice L. Clouser (Jim), Muir; Sandi M. Mendinsky (Alex), Tower City; Christine A. O’Shaughnessy, Virginia, and Nancy L. Mihalko (Tim), Hanover; two sons, Michael J. Carl (Jessica), Tower City, and Patrick J. Carl, with whom Joan resided in North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Carl, Pine Grove; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A public walk-thru viewing following all CDC guidelines will be held Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, from 6-7 p.m. at the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home, Inc., Tower City. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Opaki, AJ as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
