TOWER CITY • Jeannette Sweigard, 93, of Tower City, passed away July 11, 2019, at Premier of Susquehanna Nursing Home. She was born in Lower Paxton Twp. to the late Delores and Edgar Martz. She was the widow of Emory Sweigard, who passed away Nov. 6, 2016, after 71 years of marriage. She graduated from Lower Paxton High School. She worked for 35 years at the Department of Labor and Industry. She was a member of the Paxton Methodist Church since 1943 where she helped with making Easter eggs yearly. She also was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of 101 Linglestown Legion. Jeannette loved making ceramics, crocheting and working in her flower gardens. She loved spending time with her family. Jeannette had a beautiful smile and a loving heart, and if she met you, she loved you. She was known as Gram by many. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Martz and Deloris Metz; and one brother, Edgar Martz. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Underkoffler of Tower City; her grandchildren: Matt Underkoffler (Wendy) of Tower City, Kori Bell (Todd) of Millersburg and Amy Welsh (Richard) of Greenville, N.C.; her great-grandchildren: Matthew Underkoffler, Andrew Underkoffler, Lindsay Matter, Karleen Bell and Sydney and Sawyer Welsh; her sisters, Nancy Famularo of Harrisburg and Pamela (Ken) Homrighausen of Grantville; her brother, Richard Martz (Linda) of Lebanon; her brother‑in‑law, Earl Sweigard of Harrisburg; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tower City or Paxton Methodist Church in Harrisburg. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 26, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Pastor Brent Salsgiver will be officiating. Guests should arrive at 10:45 a.m. and follow “Funerals” sign to the rear of the Administration Building. Arrangements are by the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Harrisburg.
