HERNDON • Jean H. Hoffman, 96, of Herndon, Pa, passed peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at the Mansion in Sunbury. She was the widow of James G. Hoffman Sr., who passed away Aug. 31, 1974. Jean was born Jan. 13, 1923, to the late Homer E. and Pearl A. (Witmer) Kissinger. Jean retired from The Department of Labor and Industry, Harrisburg, after 30 years of service. She had many jobs before and after working for Labor and Industry, including the Lyon Knitting Mill, The Federal Government Allowances and Allotments in Washington D.C., during World War II, Westinghouse Electric, Sunbury, the Dalmatia Blouse Factory, the Herndon American Legion, the Herndon Pizza Shop, CBS Creative Playthings and Line Mountain Video. She was a member of the Herndon Zion Church. Surviving are six children: Bonita (Bonnie) Rene Robbins, Malvern, Pa., Garth (Butch) D. Baker, St. Clair, Pa., Fred G. Rishel Jr., Herndon, Pa., Robin J. Rishel, Sunbury, Pa., Holly Jean Mercado, Houston, Texas, and James George Hoffman Jr., Dornsife, Pa., nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild (Presely Jean). Jean was the last surviving sibling of two sisters, Faye Lydic and Phylis (Boyer) Shaffer, and one brother, Kenneth Kissinger. She was an avid gardener and loved her flower beds. She loved to sew and crochet. She was a great cook and would always say “Have some more,” and you would always leave with leftovers. Jean was famous for her apple pies with their secret flaky crusts. Another favorite with everyone was her homemade chicken potpie. Jean was a Cowboy fan and admired Tom Landry, a Phillies fan, and she really liked going to the Herndon ballfield to watch the softball games and be with all her friends in the stands. She loved to travel and hated to fly but that didn’t deter her from going places. She went on many vacations throughout the states and liked Arizona and the New England states the most. Jean traveled abroad to Spain, Germany, France and The Netherlands. She went to Mexico numerous times. Jean went to the Jersey Shore many times, loved to sit on the beach, she walked the boardwalk and always brought home Shrivers salt water taffy. Jean was a loving mother who always worried more about others than herself her entire life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family is going to have a toast of “whiskey and milk,” her favorite drink, in her honor for all the love, devotion, dedication and guidance she provided for each and everyone of us. The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the entire staff at The Mansion for their compassion and dedication in providing care for our mother in her time of need. We can’t find enough words to say how grateful we are for everything everyone did for our mother. Thank you all. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Contributions in Jean’s name may be made to Zion Church, Box 384, Herndon, PA or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert G. Foust Jr., Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, Pa.
