HERSHEY • Jan Wasser, 74, formerly of Pitman, died July 29. She was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Wilmington, Del., a daughter of the late Earl and JoAnn Scott Zener. She graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and worked as a registered nurse. She first worked at Grandview Hospital and then worked as a home and hospice care nurse and retired from Hershey Medical Center. She attended Hershey Free Church and led their Grief Share group. She was a former member of Grace Community Church, Herndon, and Zion EC Church, Pitman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Wasser; and a daughter, Donna Oettinger. She is survived by four children: Douglas Oettinger of Utah, Karen Leitzel of Herndon, Mark Oettinger of North Carolina, and Abby Rudy of Hershey; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters: Eileen Miller, Betsy Bitner and Lisa Denofa; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Aug. 2 at Hanoverdale Church, Hummelstown. Graveside committal was at Zion EC Cemetery, Pitman. Contributions may be made to support adult patient care at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Checks can be made payable to Penn State University and list Jan Wasser Memorial on memo line.
