Harper Franklin Zarker
HALIFAX • Harper “Harp” Franklin Zarker of Halifax, formerly of Lykens, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, at home. Harper was born Aug. 8, 1925, at Lykens, Pa., to the late Harper and Hattie B. Chubb Zarker. Harp was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and he served on ship LST 701 from 1943-1945 as a seaman first class. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lykens, lifetime member of Gratz VFW Post No. 2385 and the Millersburg American Legion No. 326, and a social member of both Liberty Hose Co. No. 2, Lykens, and Wiconisco Fire Co. No. 1. He is survived by two sons, Harper F. Zarker Jr. and Robert W. Zarker; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Harper was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Edith Ann Boyer Zarker; sisters, Golda Arteda Sheaffer, Sylvia Stenus Allman, Nina V. Goodman and Teneth Carena Heffilfinger; brother, Holden Melvin Zarker; stepbrother Roland Thorn, and half–brother Fernwood Donald. Graveside memorial services with military honors for Harper will be held Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 1 p.m. from Calvary United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco, Pa. John R.
