GRATZ • Mrs. Hannah Joanna Maurer, 95, peacefully died Dec. 30, 2020. She was born Nov. 20, 1925, in Lykens Twp., a daughter of the late Ralph F. Dockey and Amelia C. (Scheib) Dockey. Her husband, Robert E. Maurer, died in 2010. She also was preceded in death by her two siblings, Hilda and George. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Miller and her husband Ken of Gratz; three grandchildren, Amelia Bellis and her husband Dana of Millersburg, Jana Hoover and her husband Brent of Halifax, and Robert Miller and his wife Cortney of Millersburg and four great-grandchildren, Kennadie, Roman, Presley and Gianna. Hannah was a graduate of the former Berrysburg High School. When her beloved Robert went to Germany, Hannah did her part for the war cause. She inspected shells for accuracy and use by the military. Upon Robert’s return, she married the love of her life and worked as a talented seamstress until the birth of their daughter. Hannah was a member of Simeon United Lutheran Church, Gratz. She was a member of the Willing Workers, a former Sunday school teacher, a tutor to migrant children and a member of the Tri-Valley Senior Citizens, and she enjoyed bowling in the local leagues. She and Robert spent hours maintaining a large garden, which they generously shared with those who enjoyed their harvest. The life she lived was blessed with faith, family and service. She and Robert enjoyed their time making their famous pumpkin rolls to share with others. They enjoyed traveling abroad and stateside, which carried over into cherished mystery trips with her grands. There is nothing she loved better than taking care of her grandchildren and enjoying her great-grandchildren. She was always their No. 1 fan. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gratz Parks and Recreation Association c/o Misty Kolva, PO Box 12, Gratz, PA 17030. A faithful and loving life well lived, a blessing to all who loved her. Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes Ltd, Millersburg, handled the arrangements.
