MILLERSBURG • Frances Cleota Shoop, age 98, went to live with her Lord and Savior Sept. 3, 2019. She was born in Millersburg, July 14, 1921, daughter of the late William W. and Alvenia E. Hassinger Howard. Frances graduated from Millersburg High School in 1940. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Millersburg, having taught children’s Sunday School for 70 years. She also enjoyed teaching sewing as well, to both youth and adults, and was the leader for sewing projects for Dauphin County 4-H for 35 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Frances retired from Johnson Bailey (Kinney) Shoe Co. after 34 years of work. During World War II, she worked for Brubaker Reamer and Tool Co. She also worked for Miller’s Brothers Ice Cream for 20 years. Frances greatly enjoyed sewing and was a personal seamstress for many in the community and surrounding areas. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Shoop; sisters, Phyllis Lebo (Morris) and Leona Moore (George); and brothers, John Howard (Lois) and infant Eugene Howard; and a son-in-law, Stanley Romberger. She is survived by a daughter, Louetta Romberger; two grandchildren, Lisa Romberger (Dean Snyder) and Jesse Romberger (Crystal); six great-grandchildren: Emily, Ethan, Evelyn and Elliott Snyder and Chesney and Tenley Romberger; a sister, Kathryn Teats; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sept. 7 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Hoffman officiating. Burial was in St. John’s “Hill Church” cemetery in Berrysburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Homeland Hospice. Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Ltd. in Millersburg handled the arrangements.
