HALIFAX • Edward “Ed” Paul Esterline Sr., 84, of Carsonville, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021. He was born Aug. 1, 1936, in Harrisburg, Pa., the only son of the late John and Mary (Magaro) Esterline. In his youth, Ed was a lightweight boxer in the Harrisburg Police Athletic League. He was a local country singer in the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, playing shows with Patsy Cline, Eddy Arnold, Marvin Rainwater, Jean Shepherd, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper. He retired from the Patriot News in 1988 after 38 years of service. He loved hunting and fishing and trips to Alaska, Colorado, Alabama and Saskatch-ewan, Canada, with his son. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara (Pontius) Esterline; three daughters, Cindy Hoffman and Gene of South Carolina, Alice Steele and Raymond of Marysville and Annette Stoner and Butch of Dillsburg; nine grandchildren, Barbara, Anthony, Michelle, Edward (III), Christian, Nicole, Steven, Ashley and Cassandra; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand-child; and his sister, Maryann (Esterline) Speese of York Springs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Ed Jr. A memorial service was held Jan. 22 at Matamoras Community Church, 3267 Peters Mountain Rd., Halifax 17032. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Armstrong Valley Bible Baptist Church Building Fund, 2041 Armstrong Valley Rd., Halifax PA 17032.
