Dr. Madeline E. Blackway

LYKENS • Dr. Madeline E. Blackway of Lykens passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at home. She was born June 8, 1934, at Halifax, Pa., to the late Arthur M. and Bertha Straub Enders. Madeline was a graduate of Halifax High School, class of 1952, where she was class valedictorian, a 1956 graduate of Penn State University and received her Ph.D. in Education from Temple University. She retired from the Halifax School District and taught literature at both Kutztown University and Lebanon Valley College. She was a member of St. Christopher Lutheran Church, Lykens, Phi Kappa Delta, and the Lykens/Wiconisco Historical Society. She was active with the Twin Valley Players, Theatre of Harrisburg and The Oyster Mill Playhouse. Madeline is survived by a son William H. Blackway Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., a daughter Julie Maxwell of Lykens, grandchildren Brooke Kotiewicz of Halifax, Keeley Kotiewicz of Wiconisco, Madison and Amanda Maxwell of Lykens and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents Madeline was preceded in death by her husband William H. Blackway. There are no services scheduled at this time. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
