SPRING GLEN • Douglas R. Welker, 66, of Spring Glen, passed away peacefully the morning of July 19, 2021, with his wife by his side at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born July 15, 1955, in Lykens, a son of the late Lester Welker and Lila Welker of Northumberland. Doug was employed for 46 years at M.I. Windows and Doors, where he held multiple positions throughout his career, retiring in January 2021 as a forklift driver. On June 13, 1981, Douglas married the former Shirley A. Smith of Klingerstown, recently celebrating their 40th anniversary. Doug was a member of the Gratz Fire Co., Erdman Sportsman Club, Valley View Gun Club and the Diamond Jubilee Memorial VFW Post No. 2385, Gratz. In addition to his wife and mother, Douglas is survived by two daughters, Heather Smith and companion Shane Phillips of Elizabethville and Emily Romberger and husband Kyle of Pillow; two grandsons, Zayne and Kade Romberger; a sister, Alice Troutman and husband Kenneth of Montoursville; two brothers, Dennis Welker and Joanne Hughes of Arizona and David Welker and wife Marge of Klingerstown. A funeral service was held July 24, 2021, at James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, with Rev. Robert Straub officiating. Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Gratz. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gratz Fire Co., 102 S. Center St., Gratz PA 17030. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, is in charge of the arrangements.
