PILLOW • Dennis L. Smeltz, 78, of Pillow, passed away March 7, 2021, at his home in Pillow surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. He was born in Trevorton Jan. 4, 1943, a son of the late Paul and Hannah Smeltz. Dennis worked at Meckley’s Limestone for 45 years and served in the Army Reserve. In retirement he continued his coal delivery business and was a funeral attendant at James A. Reed Funeral Home. He was a member of Salem-Zion Church of Pillow, Pillow Fire Co., lifetime member of Dauphin County Firemen’s Association, Pillow Borough Council for 50 years, Grandview Cemetery Board, American Legion Dalmatia Post 504, Loyal Order of Moose Millersburg, social member of the Diamond Jubilee VFW Post 2385 Gratz, Vintage Motor Touring Society and the Gratz Antique Machinery Association. Dennis enjoyed going to vintage car tours, car shows, tractor shows and garden tractor pulls with his grandsons. His grandsons meant the world to him. Dennis is survived by his wife Patricia Smeltz, daughter, Ashley (Steve) Welker; two grandsons, Brock and Cale Welker and goddaughter Desiree Buffington. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris, and a brother, Dale Smeltz. Private services will be held at convenience of the family. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date; please check the funeral home website for date and time. Interment will take place in the Grandview Cemetery, Pillow.
