Debra R. Short
ARCHBOLD, Ohio • Debra R. (Shetterly) Short was born April 21, 1970, in Harrisburg, Pa. Deb grew up in Millersburg, Pa. She spent her childhood on a dairy farm, learning the value of hard work and enjoying the outdoors. During a trip with her youth group after high school graduation, a strapping young man hit Deb with a volleyball. Deb soon married that strapping man and moved to Archbold, Ohio, to build a life with him. Deb and Randy were married June 3, 1989. In her adult years, Deb was a homemaker and a janitor at West Clinton Mennonite Church. Hers was the favorite home of many children in the community; she willingly shifted her schedule to babysit for grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews, and other children. Deb’s hospitality extended beyond her home. She had a welcoming personality that invited others to process in her presence, and her non-judging character allowed family and friends to find their own answers as she listened. Deb was diagnosed with appendix cancer in October 2019. She fought for seven months, never ceasing to draw comfort from God and her family. On June 12, 2020, Deb passed away peacefully in her sleep at home, holding the hand of the same strapping man she married just 31 years earlier. Deb’s legacy of love includes her husband, Randy Short; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica and John Schoenhals of Archbold, Oh., Becca and Jonathon Burkholder of Warden, Wash., and Emily and Micah Hunsberger of Goshen, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Audra and Abram Schoenhals and Micah and Lena Burkholder. Also mourning the loss of Deb, are her mother and father, Don and Sandy Shetterly; her brother, Steven Shetterly; and sister, Donna Snyder. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020, from 3-8 p.m. and a memorial service will be held Sunday, June 21, 2020, at 2 p.m.; both the visitation and the memorial service will be held at West Clinton Mennonite Church, 18029 Co. Rd. C, Wauseon, Ohio. Short Funeral Home, Archbold, Ohio, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
