CARLISLE • Betty Jane Shearer, age 91, of Carlisle and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home. Born May 22, 1927, in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Mary C. (Mixell) Kennedy. Betty had worked as a cafeteria cook for the Mechanicsburg School District until her retirement. She was a member of Grace United Metho-dist Church in Mechanicsburg for 69 years and had worked for many years as the church sexton. She committed time to reading her Bible daily and was a prayer Wwrrior. She also dedicated much time as a caregiver to numerous family and friends and was always able to meet everyone’s needs. She was a talented cook and baker and was a great gardener. In her free time, she enjoyed doing word searches, going for walks around town and watching game shows and other favorites such as “The Waltons” and “General Hospital.” Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Nester E. Shearer; her daughter, Molly Vogelsong; and by three brothers and a sister. Surviving is her daughter, Mary Kramer and husband James Jr. of Wiconisco; her son, Nester Shearer Jr. of Carlisle; her daughter, Sandra Smith and husband Gary of Carlisle; her son, Timothy Shearer and wife Cheryl of Shermans Dale; her son-in-law, Robert Vogelsong; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grand- children; and her siblings, Nancy Ford of Enola, and Frances Kennedy and Ed Kennedy of Carlisle. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 8 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, where a viewing was also held. Burial took place in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, ATTN: Building Fund in memory of Betty, 216 W. Market St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
