HALIFAX • Arlene R. Hoffman, 86, of Halifax, went to final rest with the Lord Monday, April 15, 2019, at UPMC Pinnacle Hospital, Harrisburg. She was born in Dornsife, Pa., March 8, 1933, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jean Spang. She married Charles Hoffman Feb. 14, 1953. He preceded her in death July 30, 1991. Arlene was a 1951 graduate of Mahanoy Joint High School, Herndon, Pa. She was employed at various clothing factories before her retirement. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Fisherville. Arlene is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Ronald Schmick of Herndon; one son, Ronald Hoffman of Halifax; one son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Denise Hoffman of Halifax; two granddaughters and their spouses, Christina and Jeffery Herrold and Stephanie and Robert Shipe; three grandsons: Lauren Hoffman, Mitchell Hoffman and Kyle Hoffman; five great-grandchildren: Ella, Max, Ace, Joshua and Cooper; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kathy Spang; one sister-in-law, Cindy Spang; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Wendy Hoffman; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Ann Spang; and her companion later in life, Earl Mowery. In her earlier years, Arlene enjoyed roller skating at the Herndon Skating Rink where she met her husband, Charles. She was a talented seamstress and was often found sewing for her family and friends including making ring pillows for family weddings. She enjoyed listening to country music. After retirement, she was an avid camper and was able to travel across the country several times with her companion. Her favorite camping locations were Dellville and Pirateland in Myrtle Beach. She developed strong relationships with her camper friends with whom she has remained friends with for the rest of her life. At the campsite, she was often found playing dominoes, Rummikub, penny bingo and bean bags with her friends and family. She had three inside cats at her home which kept her company the last few years. Arlene was also diligent in making sure her birds in the front yard were fed daily. She loved spending time with her family. Her great-grandchildren loved to be with her as she had an unlimited amount of attention for them. A viewing was held from 10-11 a.m. Monday, April 22 followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Fisherville. Burial was at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Halifax.
