TOWER CITY • Anna Mae Smith, 87, of Tower City, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at the Hershey Medical Center with family by her side. Born Sept. 16, 1933, in Muir, she was a daughter of the late Clair G. Shomper and Anna Gabel Smith. She was a 1951 graduate of Porter High School. Following graduation Anna Mae worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry. She retired from the Garnet Valley School District cafeteria after 22 years of service. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Reinerton. Anna Mae enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and was very proud of her swan collection. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Smith, 2015; a son, James L. Smith, 1999; two brothers, Clair “Buddy” Shomper and Ronald Shomper; and two sisters, Norma Reedy and Violet Chatcho. Surviving are her daughter, Cathy Machamer and her husband Ben of Williamstown; two granddaughters, Justine Machamer of Chambersburg and Courtney Machamer of, Williamstown; and several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna Mae’s memory can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1931 Wiconisco St., Tower City PA 17980.
