LYKENS • Allen J. Trawitz, 73, of Lykens, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 14. He was born Feb. 8, 1947, in Williamstown, Pa., a son of the late James William and Lucy Jane (Beitler) Trawitz. He was a 1965 graduate of Williamstown High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he received the Bronze Star award. He reached E4 in rank. His time served was 1966-68. He was a member of Lykens United Methodist Church. He is a graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College and Bucknell School of Banking. He retired from Mid Penn Bank, where he finished his career as vice president of commercial lending and previously on the Board of Directors at the former Miners Bank. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda L. (Hoover) Trawitz; his son, Stephen A. Trawitz (Mandi) and grandsons, Hunter and Hayden of Millersburg; son Tyler C. Trawitz (Jayme Simmons) and grandchildren, Peyton, Luke and Reagan Wentzel of Lykens; a brother, James Trawitz (Jane) of Loyalton; and a sister, Audrey Clouser (William) of Carsonville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece Jeanette Trawitz; and a granddaughter, Madilyn Faith Trawitz. Allen was an active member of the Lykens Chamber of Commerce for many years. He poured countless hours into the bettering of the Lykens and surrounding community. Some of his projects included Lykens Fall Festival, Concerts in the Park, Hotel Revitalization, Lykens Christmas Tree Lighting Displays and Lykens Valley Rail Trail. Other organizations that benefited from Allen’s involvement were Tall Cedars No. 25, Gratz VFW, Williamstown Legion, YMCA Board of Directors, Ashlar Lodge No. 570 F & AM, Lykens, Boy Scouts of America, Lykens Little Tigers and L&W Little League. Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and summer vacations at Wildwood Crest. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, March 19 at Lykens Methodist Church, 527 N. Second St., Lykens, with Rev. Lori Betsworth officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. with services directly following. A time of fellowship and a meal will follow in the church social hall.
