Patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital were on the mind and heart of Addison Daugherty during the recent Christmas season. The Millersburg girl wanted the world-famous facility to share in some of the fruits of a highly successful holiday cookie baking endeavor. Those fruits amounted to $125, half of the profit Addison realized from the unanticipated sale of 50 dozen baked goods. Addison is the daughter of Brent and Stacy Daugherty. Based in Memphis, Tenn., St. Jude treats young men and women (up to age 21) with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. It does not ask families to pay for their children’s care, whether or not they have insurance. ‘‘She has seen what these children go through and the struggles they have and wanted to share with them during the Christmas season,’’ Stacy Daugherty said. ‘‘($125) may not be much, but in her eyes, every little bit can put a smile on someone’s face.’’ ‘‘Addy’’ has always enjoyed helping her mom in the kitchen, particularly with baking. ‘She is now age 9 and wants to be more independent,’’ Stacy Daugherty explained. ‘‘So when she brought me a list of cookies and asked if she could ‘start a business,’ baking Christmas cookies, I told her to go for it. ‘‘She asked if I could post her SEE COOKIES • PAGE A8
