Maybe it was inevitable that Elizabethville resident Chase Weibley would end up behind the wheel of a racing car.
After all, he is named after Chase Elliott, a successful driver in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. And in 2.5 seasons of competitive go-kart racing, it’s become clear that ‘‘‘Chase’’ also stands for something a lot of the young man’s competitors have had to do against him when he’s on the track.
Among his accomplishments so far:
• A state-level championship in his age group for this season.
• An invitation to race in a national event.
• A 14-win campaign and several runner-up finishes, also this year.
• A “Rookie of the Year,’’ “Most Improved Driver’’ and two separate “Most Improved Driver’’ honors in 2018, his first full competitive season.
At age 11, Chase already has ambitions of racing at even higher levels of competition. Chase attends Upper Dauphin Area Middle School. His parents are Chad and Kimberly Weibley. Inspired by a Champion It was mid-2017, on a visit to Cumberland County’s Williams Grove Speedway, when Chase met the man who inspired his own desire to race – Rico Abreu, a California-born driver who competes in both midget and sprint car events. (Abreu won the national USAC Midget Championship in 2014.)
