NEW CUMBERLAND • Ellen Arlene Williard Johnston, 90, of New Cumberland, Pa., entered her Heavenly Eternal home Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, under the care of Hospice of Central PA. She was born June 4, 1930, in Lykens to the late Roy Williard and Eva (Klinger) Schadle Paul. She was the widow of Harry R. Johnston. She is survived by her son, Timothy W. Johnston (Carole Jean) of Camp Hill; brothers, Ray Schadle of Herndon and Roy Williard of Williamstown; grandson, Gregory A. Johnston of New Cumberland; cherished nieces and nephews; a very special great-niece, Sheena Erdman of Elizabethville; stepgrandchildren, Todd Young of Hamilton, N.J., Tara Stasi of Mechanicsburg, Tori Marmol (Jose) of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.; and stepgreat-grandchildren, Tommy and Sarah Chelednik of Mechanicsburg, Nathan and Meagan Young of New Market, Md., Joseph, Matthew and Daniel Marmol of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. She was preceded in death by sisters, Violet Schadle Williams and Kay Paul Matter; and brothers, Russell Schadle, Leon Schadle, James Schadle, Paul Williard, Vernon Williard, Arthur Williard; and infant siblings, Baby Boy Paul and Baby Girl Schadle. Her deep faith in God and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sustained her through many trials, and she always said, “God will take care of me.” Ellen cherished her family. Tim and Greg were the love of her life, and her home was her foundation. Her best friends were the Valley Girls from high school, who celebrated birthdays and lunches with margaritas. Ellen loved to entertain, was an excellent cook and enjoyed auctions, flea markets, antiques, travel, music, dancing and sharing memories and stories. Ellen was an organ donor. The eldest of her 13 siblings, she was born on Luxembourg Rd., Lykens, R.D., on her maternal grandparents’ farm, raised lovingly by Lizzy (Scheib) and Charles Klinger (Mammy and Pappy). In 1949, she came to the big city of Harrisburg to find her fortune; she met a young World War II paratrooper, fell in love and married Dec. 27, 1952. Harry R. Johnston (Hike) died in 1991. She attended a one- room country school in Erdman – Kessler’s School. She graduated from Hubley Twp. High School, Spring Glen, attended Penn State University Middletown Campus, Penn Central Beauty School and Realtor’s Institute, G.R.I. Careers included Studio Girl Cosmetics, Hollywood, Calif., Sarah Coventry Jewelry, manager, cosmetology teacher, supervisor and dean of admissions, Tri-County Beauty School in Harrisburg, Realtor and Realtor Emeritus with Steenland Country Club Realty, Dougherty and Twigg, and Jack Gaughen, all in Camp Hill. She volunteered at the Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg, Association of Realtors State and National Associations, Tall Cedars Auxiliary and Red Hat Society. Services were held Dec. 22, 2020, at Calvary Chapel Harrisburg–West Shore, 702 Lisburn Road, Camp Hill, Pa., with her Pastor Matt VanderVen officiating. Private burial was in East Harrisburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research, Memphis, TN 38105.
