DAUPHIN • Shirley L. (Wiest) Schrope, 86, Dauphin, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2 at her home. Born Feb. 4, 1934, in Spring Glen, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Annie (Schmeltz) Wiest. She was a 1951 graduate of Hubley Twp. High School. She retired from the Comptroller’s office at PHEAA. She was the widow of Paul S. Schrope Jr. and also was preceded in death by her siblings, Elwood Wiest, John Wiest, Herman Wiest, Arlene Jackson, and Eugene Wiest. In high school, she played the coronet and was quite the athlete. She was an accomplished figure skater and bowler and an avid fisherman. Shirley became a Girl Scout leader at Rockville United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to dinners at the American Legion with her husband. She liked putting puzzles together, was a good cook and seamstress, and loved watching the movie musicals from the 1940s and 1950s. Always loving, forgiving, and self-sacrificing, she put others first and had the ability to see the best in all. Surviving are her children: Gary P. Schrope (and Susan) of Warren, Pa., Gail D. Kessler of Oley, Pa., Luann G. Woodcock (and David) of Dauphin and Susan Schrope Kramer of Peoria, Ariz.; her sister, Connie Bagley of Oregon; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other nieces, nephews and family members. Burial with her beloved husband at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Kimmel Funeral Home, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.
