HALIFAX • John W. Witmer of Halifax (Carsonville), Pa., passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital. He was born Feb. 25, 1940, in Wiconisco Twp., to the late Charles C. and Fern A. Snyder Witmer. John was an Army Reserve veteran and a charter member and past fire chief of the Carsonville Volunteer Fire Co., where he served for 45 years; a member of St. James Church, Carsonville; and board member of the Halifax Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a Steelers and Yankees fan. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mattie J. Luzier Witmer; a daughter, Brenda S. Osman and husband Dave; grandchildren, Alicia and Andrew; a brother, Daniel Witmer; and a sister, Dorothy Strohm. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Charles. Funeral services will be held Wednesday Aug. 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. from St. James Church, 3502 Powells Valley Rd., Halifax, Pa. 17032 (Carsonville). There will be a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s name to his church at the above address or to Carsonville Volunteer Fire Co., 2990 Powells Valley Rd., Halifax, PA 17032.
